Getting out of London

Go yachting in Cowes, surfing in Newquay, skiing in the Alps, sightseeing in Paris, whatever... Europe is on your doorstep and has it all.

First class

Rent a car
Renting a car gives you all the advantages of access to remote places with none of the hassle of owning the car. Budget, easyCar and Avis have cars just down Warwick Road towards Tesco. You can rent a Toyota people-mover to carry all your surf boards or a BMW roadster to get to the Alps quickly!
Fly
Flying from Heathrow or Gatwick is the quickest way around Europe. Leave home 2½ hours before your flight take-off time:
  • Take the tube from Kensington Olympia platform 1 to Earl's Court and go downstairs for the Piccadilly line west to Heathrow Airport. Fare = £2.50 (compared to £35 for a black cab or £20 for a mini-cab).
  • Take a yellow connex south central train from Kensington Olympia platform 3 to Gatwick Airport. Fare = £8 (compared to £70 for a black cab or £35 for a mini-cab).

Coach
Sometimes not as quick as the train but it's nearly always cheaper. For example, you can go to Oxford on the Oxford Tube coach from outside the Kensington Hilton. It runs 24 hours, as frequently as a bus and is only £10 return.
